CS2 Economy Guide
Economy Basics
Understanding the CS2 economy is crucial for competitive play. Every round, your team needs to decide whether to buy, eco (save), or force buy. Making the right decision can win you the game.
Round Win
$3,250
Base reward for winning a round
Max Loss Bonus
$3,400
After 5+ consecutive losses
Bomb Plant (T)
$300
Each player gets $300 for planting
Money Cap
$16,000
Maximum money you can hold
Buy Round Types
Buy when your entire team can afford a rifle + armor + full utilities (+ defuse kit for CTs). This is the standard buy round.
All 5 players can afford rifles
Full armor and helmet
At least 3-4 grenades each
CT: Always include defuse kit
When you can afford armor and a budget rifle (FAMAS/Galil) but not a full loadout. Better than forcing but not ideal.
FAMAS or Galil AR
Full armor
1-2 grenades
Coordinate with team
Buying the best you can when you need to win the round but cannot afford a full buy. Risky but sometimes necessary.
SMGs or pistols + armor
Limited grenades
Used in do-or-die situations
Second round after pistol win is common
Saving money by buying nothing or only a pistol. Goal is to save for next round's full buy while trying to get kills.
Buy nothing or P250/Deagle only
No armor
Try to deal economic damage
Save weapons from previous round if possible
Economy Tips
Always buy as a team
If one player cant afford a full buy, the whole team should eco together.
Track enemy economy
Count enemy kills and round wins to predict their buy rounds.
Save weapons when possible
If the round is lost and you have an expensive weapon, try to save it.
Dont over-save
Buying at $16,000 means wasted money. Buy for teammates or upgrade.
SMG on anti-eco
Use SMGs against eco rounds for higher kill rewards ($600 vs $300).
Bomb plant matters
T-side: always try to plant. $300 per player adds up quickly.
FAQ
In CS2, you earn increasing loss bonus money for consecutive round losses: $1400 for the first loss, $1900 for the second, $2400 for the third, $2900 for the fourth, and $3400 for five or more consecutive losses. Winning a round resets the loss bonus counter.
You get $3250 for winning a round in CS2. Additionally, you earn kill rewards that vary by weapon type (e.g., $300 for rifles, $600 for SMGs, $900 for shotguns, $100 for the AWP).
A full buy typically costs $4700-$5700 on CT side (M4 + Kevlar + Helmet + Full nades + Defuse Kit) and $4400-$5100 on T side (AK + Kevlar + Helmet + Full nades). You should only full buy when you have enough to afford everything.
You should eco (save) when your team cannot afford a full buy. A common rule is: if you cannot afford a rifle + armor + at least 2 utilities, consider saving. Coordinate with your team so everyone buys together.
The maximum money you can hold in CS2 is $16,000. Any money earned beyond this cap is lost, so avoid over-saving.
